You have everything exactly backwards. You make the Malthusian mistake of seeing people strictly as a consumer of resources. We are, of course--but more importantly, we are a resource. In fact, people are the most valuable resource of all. We create resources that did not exist before (electricity, gasoline) and we create processes where we get the products and services we want while using less and less natural resources.
