or The Equality vs Equity Debate
Watching a 2020 Biden/Harris campaign video narrated by Harris, I was struck by the implied reaction to adversity represented. It starts by showing two men walking along, one on elevated ground and the other in what looks like a gully. The man on the higher ground is pale tan, and the man in the gully is a darker brown.
The symbolism is not at all subtle: the higher ground represents White Privilege.
As they walk, they come to a mountain, which represents the challenges that must be overcome to lead a happy, productive life (or whatever life goals one might have).
Here’s where it gets really stupid.
Two golden ropes hang from the top of the mountain. I have tried to figure out what they represent; it is not made clear in the narrative. The only interpretation that makes any sense is they represent the skills and talents needed to overcome life’s obstacles.
The ropes do not go all the way to the bottom of the mountain. However, the bottom of the ropes end well within the reach of the white guy on the elevated ground. In fact, this man grabs one of the ropes and quickly climbs out of sight. The brown man in the gully makes a couple of half-hearted attempts to leap up to get the second rope, but it is far too high.
